Craving something warm and satisfying, but not feeling up to spending hours in the kitchen? Then we’ve got a recipe for you — a hot chocolate recipe, that is. Infused with CBD, spice, and everything nice, our take on hot chocolate will have you feeling nourished from the inside, out.
CBD Golden Hot Chocolate
Unsweetened coconut milk (16 ounces)
Just in case you’ve never tried coconut milk, we’d like to make a small PSA: it is amazing. Rich, decadent, creamy...regular heavy cream just doesn’t stand a chance. Plus coconut milk is healthy! It’s rich in healthy fats and electrolytes. Just make sure to get the unsweetened stuff.
Cocoa powder (1 ½ Tbsp)
A little goes a long way with cocoa powder. Like coconut milk, it can be pretty decadent...combine the two and you have a recipe for rich, chocolatey goodness. Without the downsides of sugar-laden regular chocolate, of course.
Ground turmeric (3/4 tsp)
Is there anything turmeric doesn’t taste good with? Maybe, but we haven’t found it yet. Adding a few pinches of it to this recipe provides just enough spice.
Ground cinnamon (1 tsp)
Another versatile spice, cinnamon is as healthy as it is delicious. Add cinnamon to a hot beverage like this one and you get another gift: its amazing, perfect-for-the-holidays smell.
Tiny pinch of black pepper
That little pinch of back pepper is all you need to help your body absorb those anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric. There’s really only one way to appreciate its ever-so-slightly earthy blend of pepper and turmeric, though — and that’s by trying it yourself.
Honey (2 tsp.) (* substitute agave nectar for a vegan option)
2 teaspoons of honey gives this hot chocolate just enough sweetness. It’s delicious, yes...but definitely not overpowering. There’s really no reason to drink white sugar anymore!
Refined coconut oil (2–3 tsp.)
Another creaminess-contributing ingredient checking in here. And thanks to the healthy fats present in coconut oil, this drink will have you feeling satisfied all morning long.
Relax oil (1-2 drops)
What’s life without a little CBD, though? Our relax oil makes an appearance here for a reason: its powerful blend of CBD and terpenes is great for energy, mood, and pain relief.
You know how those Flinstone vitamins you took as a kid made staying healthy fun? Same concept here — just with CBD, instead of processed vitamins.
- In a medium saucepan, warm coconut milk just to the point of a light simmer.
- Add in cocoa powder, turmeric, cinnamon, black pepper, sweetener of choice, and coconut oil.
- Whisk vigorously or use a handheld immersion blender to combine until frothy.
- Add in your drops of Relax CBD oil.
- Top with topping of your choice (we're suckers for marshmallows) and sprinkle with cinnamon + turmeric.
